How screen can be made child-friendly technology – Experts

Dr. Ayodele Renner

Influential advocates for children’s well-being, Dr. Ayodele Renner, popularly known as The Noisy Naija Paediatrician, and Yetty Williams, the founder of Lagos Mums have emphasised the importance of establishing a comprehensive digital structure for children. The duo,  in an educative live session series,  delved into the complexities of screen time in today’s fast-paced media age, aligning with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendations.

The ‘Noisy Naija Paediatrician’ urged parents to strictly limit screen time for children, under two years of age, and carefully monitor it for those aged two to five, while highlighting the potential negative impacts of excessive screen time on cognitive, social, and emotional growth.

Renner’s  advocacy extends beyond social media, as he plans to launch an initiative to revolutionise childcare in Nigeria, an effort, he believes, will provide insights, practical advice, and emotional support to expecting parents, as well as new and working mothers seeking guidance. By creating a platform for education, and entertainment, the convention, he added, aims to equip parents with the knowledge and confidence needed to raise physically and mentally healthy children.

Committed to improving paediatric awareness and healthcare in Nigeria, the paediatrician through his social media platform makes efforts to educate and empower parents with numerous insights to child childcare. Notably, he is set to spearhead The Baby Convention, Nigeria’s first conference to bring together families in need of expert intervention for their children, providing a platform for direct engagement with professionals in the paediatric field

Collaborating  to offer practical perspectives on the challenges faced by modern families, Williams,  a seasoned parenting coach, in her remarks, acknowledged the difficulties of adhering to strict screen time guidelines,  while  highlighting  the significance of parental education and awareness in fostering healthy digital habits.

Lagos Mums, under Williams’ guidance, provides essential resources and support to help parents navigate the complexities of parenting in the digital age.
