A global player in logistics business, and exporter, AAJ Express Logistics Limited, has lamented that the new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, has begun to take its toll on exporters from Nigeria, as 70 percent of shipments from the country to the United States are either been refused entry, or placed on hold, since the pronouncement.
The logistics company, in a statement, made available to BrandsTrack, by its Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ini Daniel, on Wednesday, noted that the development is also causing substantial delays, thereby creating immense challenges for shippers and importers operating in the US market.
It stated that the nation’s exporters are presently grappling with unprecedented challenges in shipping goods to the United States, following the full enforcement of the new tariff regulations on April 2nd, 2025.
According to the logistics company, cargo and courier companies are facing severe difficulties with clearance into the U.S., thereby resulting in crisis for exporters.
It identified the airline industry as the worst hit, since carriers are now forced to offer significant discounts, or even free returns, due to the chaos surrounding tariff enforcement.
“Adding to the frustration, exporters are left in a fog of confusion, as officials have not provided clear explanations for the refusals.
“This dilemma is not unique to Nigeria; exporters from various European nations, China, and other African countries are similarly affected by the new regulations,” it stated.
The company, therefore, called on Nigerian exporters to heed the advice of industry experts to temporarily suspend shipments to the U.S. until clearer guidelines are established from U.S. Customs.
It however, expressed the hope for a resolution that will allow those affected to resume smooth trading operations with the United States.
