The Nigerian Breweries  (NB) Plc, organisers of the annual Maltina Teacher of The Year (MToY), has said it remains committed to the annual teachers’ celebration, despite the present  unfavourable economic situation in the country.

 

The company gave the assurance while flagging off the 2024 edition of the competition, in Lagos, recently.

 

Speaking at the event, the company’s Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs. Sade Morgan, stated that though there would be a review at the end of this year’s edition, slated for October, this year, since that would mark ten years of organizing the competition, but such review would not translate to resting the award.

 

She explained that the decision of the company to review the competition’s cash prizes was a way of demonstrating the company’s commitment to go the whole hog with the competition.

 

With the review,  she stated, the star prize winner of this edition would go home with the sum of N10million, instead of the N6,5million, hitherto attached to that position. The first and second runners-up would, however, get the sums of N3m and N2.5million,  respectively, with other incentives.

 

She stated further that this year, the company will be partnering with four other brands: Union Bank, WoodHall Capital Foundation, FCMB and Alert Group to further expand the competition.

 

One of the highlights of the 2024 edition, she added, is a documentary, which will be in 10 series, to be run on paytv, DSTV, spotlighting the achievements of the competition, while taking a closer look at the nation’s educational system and development over the years.

 

The Managing Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Hans Essaadi, represented by the company’s  Human Resource Director, Grace Omo-Lamai, explained that the flag-off of this year’s edition represents the beginning of another journey to appreciating and celebrating the tireless efforts and dedication of teachers.

 

Essaadi stated that the company through the Felix-Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund remains unwavering in its commitment to supporting teachers in shaping future leaders and changing the lives of students for the better in Nigeria.
